RV Campground Review: Seaside Hotel & Victor's RV Park in San Felipe, Baja California

We had heard good things about Victor’s RV Park in San Felipe, and after we read more reviews and scrolled through photos on Campendium, we decided to book a week there!

San Felipe was our first stop in Baja, and was about a 2.5 hour drive from the Mexicali border crossing. The RV park is on the water (The Gulf of California) and is walking distance to town. It offers many types of spots.

The RV Spots

There are several oceanfront spots that are covered, right beside the beachfront bar and restaurant. They are perfect for smaller RVs. The bar does play music most of the time, so you will need to be ok with lively music if you stay in one of those spaces (It’s not very loud and we would’ve loved it if we would have fit! They had one night of live music that could be heard loudly throughout the park).

There is a back row that is furthest from the beach with 8 spaces they reserve for large rigs, 38-45 ft. It’s a very short walk to the beach as it’s a really small park. We enjoyed staying in the last space, furthest from the entrance. We had a nice little garden area with trees and plants.

RV Park Amenities

The park offers full hookups, but there are spaces for dry camping too. Some spaces offer 50 amps and others only have 30 amp. Ours was 30 amps, and we have an adaptor so it worked perfectly.

There bathrooms and showers are nice (but bring your own toilet paper!). At times the showers have hot water, but other times it is cold. We didn’t use them since we had full hookups, but that’s the report I got from others!

The park wifi is decent, around 3-5 mbps. It is only available near the office at the front gate, so you will either need to park near the front office, or be ok with no park wifi. At times the wifi would reach our RV, but when it didn’t, we used some picnic benches or parked the truck near the office and sat in the truck to use it. There were stretches of time when the wifi did not work at all.

The onsite restaurant and bar is right on the sand and overlooks the water, so pretty! We had drinks at the bar, but never tried the food. The bartender, Mario, is Victor’s nephew. He is very nice and is always up for a conversation. The bar has an outdoor TV with DirecTV so we were able to hang out and watch some football when we wanted to.

The staff

Victor, the owner, is often around the property, taking care of the grounds or working in the office. Victor’s girlfriend Lily is the main point of contact as her English is better. She is very nice and helpful, but we really didn’t need her or have any issues! As we mentioned earlier, Mario works at the bar is the Victor’s nephew. It really is a family affair! There are several dogs in the park that are owned by the staff. They run freely around the park and beach and they are friendly!

The BEach

We really enjoyed playing at the beach. It looks very different at low tide. The best time to play in the water is high tide! When low tide arrives, the water shoots out about 100 yards, exposing a lot of extra sand to play on, which is great for frisbee or football.

The negatives

The only negative in my opinion, wasn’t a big deal for us at all, but some people would complain.

There are sand dunes right across the street where people like to play all day and into the night hours. You will get to see off roaders play in the sand, hear music and laughter at times, and I thought it was kind of cool. The big rig in row is closest to it, and I’d guess the beachfront spots don’t hear it much at all.

The cost

Like anything in Mexico, prices vary. We were able to negotiate a bit. You will save money if you stay at least a week.

These are the prices we were originally quoted in USD for TWO PEOPLE:

  • Beachfront spaces $40/night, weekly discount of $30/night

  • Middle and back row spaces $30/night, weekly discount of $25/night

  • Prices are for 2 people. Each additional person is $5/night.

I was able to make a reservation in advance by sending a Facebook message and then sending a $100 deposit via Venmo. As it turns out, there was plenty of availability during our stay, but they get several caravans a year and lots of nightly turnover, so you never know how full they will be!

**Since this post was made, we have decided to skip San Felipe on subsequent trips. If we need to do an over nighter, we stay at the brewery in town, San Felipe Brewing. You can contact them on social media to ask if you can stay! There is a dirt lot behind it. We just love other spots further south better than San Felipe, so we don’t stay there anymore. We have had multiple friends stay next door to Victor’s at Club de Pesca, so check out that option as well!
