RVing in Provo, Utah
Utah is one of our favorite states. We’ve explored southern Utah, but hadn’t been to northern Utah. Since there are no Thousand Trails parks in the area, we hopped on campspot.com to find a place to stay that would allow us to explore the entire area (Campspot is kind of like a hotels.com for RV campgrounds, over 900 of them to choose from!)
Where We Stayed
We chose Provo River Resort, located right on the Provo River in Provo, Utah.
The resort is a smaller campground, which we really liked! Many of the RV spots face the water, which is great. However, this means the RV sites can’t have their own sewer. Water and and 50 amp electric hookups are available at your site, and there are two shower stalls you can use that have a 10 minute limit. They don’t have public restrooms, but there are a couple of porta-potties toward the front of the park.
There are different types of sites to choose from, based on your budget.
Non-waterfront sites
Regular waterfront sites
Waterfront sites with a deck overlooking the river
Other amenities the park has include a playground, basketball court, floats for rent, fishing, and ziplining. A small convenience store is also onsite in case you forget any necessities.
We really enjoyed the beauty of the Provo Canyon area. Being in such a beautiful place but only a few miles away from major cities is ideal for us.
What We Did
The weather
We had thunderstorms and rain 3 out of our 7 days we were there. It was kind of nice because we hadn’t seen rain or heard thunder in quite some time! Being from the East Coast, summer thunderstorms are the norm, and we kind of missed them. Also, it’s always a good excuse to rest and get a little work done!
It has also been a while since we experience 80 degree highs and 40 degree lows. It was nice to actually put on a sweatshirt for once!
Places we visted
The non-rainy days we had were spent exploring the areas surrounding Salt Lake City and Provo. The small town of Heber City, Park City and Midway were so nice and charming in their own ways! We didn’t realize how much there was to do and see in the area, so we didn’t even get to scratch the surface. There is an endless amount of entertainment, hiking, outdoor adventures and restaurants in the greater SLC area.
A few of our favorite activities were:
Catching a Salt Lake Bee’s baseball game(the Angels AAA team, which is Aaron’s favorite team)
Playing arcade games and bowling with local friends at Round One
Enjoying a delicious dinner in Midway at Lola’s Street Kitchen
Hiking a little under 4 miles to Stewart Falls
Walking around Sundance Mountain Resort
Checking out the Sunday Market in Park City
Our Next Visit
While we don’t have a planned second visit on the schedule yet, we will definitely be back and plan to spend even more time the next go-round so we can experience more! A few items on our local bucket list:
Experience Utah Olympic Park in Park City, UT
Take advantage of our e-bikes and enjoy Provo River Parkway and Park City.
If it’s football season, we’d love to check out a Utah or BYU game!
Check out the Big Cottonwood Canyon area and it’s trailheads.
If you haven’t been to the Salt Lake area, we definitely recommend! If you have been, what should be on our bucket list for next time? Tell us in the comments!
