Creating A Cozy and Functional RV Campsite

We have been traveling full time in our fifth wheel for almost 5 years now, and we have done a ton of campsite setups in lots of places.

Some of them have had gorgeous views and others had more of a parking lot vibe. Regardless of where we have parked our home on wheels, we have made it a priority to make our site functional and cozy.

Here are some things we do to create a nice campsite!

Start with a large, colorful outdoor mat

Our favorite is from Glamplife and it’s huge! We love the 16x8 size and the blue and white colors add life to our site!

Add some comfortable chairs

Having people over is something we really enjoy, so we always out out extra chairs for company. GCI Outdoors has proven to be our go-to brand of chairs, and we’ve enjoyed many different models of theirs for years.

My current favorite is the Legz Up Lounger, which reclines in several different positions, has a pillow, and a footrest too! It folds up easily into a little backpack, which we enjoy using to carry it to the beach.

Set up side tables

Having a space to serve food and drinks is a must if you’re hosting, so we always set up several around our site. The Compact Camp Table 20 is sturdy and folds up nicely for easy storage.

Hang string lights

The ambiance is truly set when you hang string lights. We’ve used several kinds over the years, but this one has help up the best.

Set out plants

Whether you have real, fake or a mixture of both, plants add a nice touch to a campsite!

Use a colorful tablecloth

We simply use a colorful blanket we got in Mexico as a tablecloth, but it brings a fun touch to our space and we we get lots of compliments on it!

Find lanterns that double as bug zappers

Bugs are a real buzz kill, so we really scored when we stumbled upon some solar lanterns that doubled as bug zappers at Costco last year!

They’re no longer at Costco but I found them on Amazon HERE!

Set up a grilling station

We often cook outside, so our GCI Slim Fold Cook Station is always one of the first things we pull out when setting up camp.

It  holds our tabletop griddle, paper towels, cooking utensils and more and creates a functional, organized space for outdoor cooking!

Use a propane fire pit

Everyone loves the ambient glow of a fire, and with a propane fire bowl, you can adjust the output of heat based on the warmth you need.

Many parts of the country have ground fire bans during dry seasons, but propane pits are always allowed! Another benefit of propane is that when the evening ends, you don’t have to spend time putting it out. All it takes is the turn of a knob!

Last but not least, you don’t have to go to bed with your hair smelling like smoke!

After setting up the site, then it’s time to sit back and relax!

It’s usually getting close to happy hour time once we are all set up and finished, so it’s a perfect time to crack open a cold one, invite your neighbor to join, and appreciate your surroundings.
