White Sands National Monument

We absolutely loved our time visiting White Sands National Monument. White Sands is in the northern Chihuahuan Desert in New Mexico. It's known for its dramatic landscape of rare white gypsum sand dunes. We stayed at Mountain Meadows RV Park in Tularosa. It was a small, basic but quaint park that was about 30 min. from White Sands. We chose it based on the great reviews and also the great price! As an added bonus, the RV park lends out plastic sleds to their customers to use at White Sands. We were able to use our Passport America discount, so 50% off as well as free sleds is hard to pass up!

We were traveling with our friends, the Selm family, so we had sand buddies to play with! All four of our kids completed their Junior Ranger booklets and were sworn in as Junior Rangers. We were only there for two nights, but we made the most of our time and made three trips to White Sands! The first evening out there, I wanted to get some family photos, so we dressed up and froze our tails off for the sake of family photos! It was pretty chilly and the sand was so cold that it hurt our feet! After I snapped some photos, we changed in the truck and joined our friends for sledding fun.

I really wanted to see a beautiful sunset, but it was so cloudy both evenings we went out, that never happened. It was still beautiful and surreal though! Huge sand dunes everywhere with the beautiful desert mountains in the background. Sledding down and running back up the dunes was great exercise. The last day, we just drove through on our way out of the area with our rigs hooked up. We took some cool photos with our truck and rigs. I HIGHLY recommend going if you have the opportunity. Here are some photos from our fun at White Sands!
